Round silver medal, diameter 3 cm, engraved by Jean-Baptiste Daniel Dupuis. Obverse featuring the effigy of the helmeted Republic, with the word "PATRIE" on the visor, surrounded by the legend "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE".
Reverse with the inscription "TONKIN - CHINA - ANNAM • 1883-1885 •" framing the names of the battles of "SONTAY, BAC-NINH, FOU-TCHÉOU, FORMOSE, TUYEN-QUAN, PESCADORES".
