ORDER OF THE CROWN OF ITALY 1868: OFFICER'S CROSS, Early 20th Century. 30311
Cross in gilded bronze and enamel. Pattee cross, chamfered, rounded, with white enamel branches connected by a Savoy knot in braided gold threads. Obverse with a central gold and blue enamel medallion, featuring the crowned kings of Lombardy in the center, in gold with white-green-scarlet enamel. Reverse in gold adorned with the Savoy eagle in black enamel carrying the cross of the House of Savoy in white and scarlet enamel. Ribbon in silk, divided into thirds with a central white band framed by two scarlet bands. Rosette. Ø 3.6 cm
Box in wood covered in burgundy velvet. The lid is printed in gold with the monogram of the King of Italy Victor Emmanuel in gilded brass topped with the royal crown. Interior of the box in black velvet and ivory silk decorated with the gold-stamped name of the manufacturer "Dco CRAVANZOLA / Prov. DELLA R. CASA / E R.R. MINISTRY / CORSO UMBERTO I / 338-339-340 / ROMA".

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
Created on 20/02/1868 by Victor Emmanuel II to commemorate the liberation of Lombardy from Austrian occupation, thus making him the first Italian sovereign king of Italy. It was meant to reward exceptional civil and military services and has five classes. The reproductions include the commander's insignia and the Grand Cross plaque.
This Order was awarded to French officers who participated in the war of 1859.
