* THEOBALD BACHER: born on June 17, 1748 in Thann (Alsace), died on November 15, 1813 in Germany. Interpreter and embassy secretary, B. arrived in Solothurn in 1777 for the conclusion of the Franco-Swiss alliance. As an official representative, he effectively led the mission, while Louis Heraclius de Polignac, Jean Gravier de Vergennes, and Charles Olivier de Vérac were ambassadors. An expulsion order issued in 1792 due to B.'s sympathies for the French Revolution was later rescinded. Settled in Basel, he organized an important intelligence service for the French Republic from 1793 onwards. He played a crucial role in the conclusion of the Treaty of Basel in 1795, alongside François de Barthélemy. When the latter was appointed a member of the Directory (May 26, 1797), B. replaced him as the official French representative in the Confederation. On November 16, 1797, he was promoted to French chargé d'affaires in Regensburg (Germany) and presented Napoleon's note announcing the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire to the Diet in 1806. He was created a baron in 1810.

** François Sébastien Charles Joseph de Croix, Count of Clerfayt, or Clerfait, or Clairfait, born on October 14, 1733 at the Château de Bruille in Waudrez, Hainaut (Austrian Netherlands), and died on July 21, 1798 in Vienna (Austria), was an Austrian officer in the army of the Holy Roman Empire. He held the rank of Field Marshal of the Holy Roman Empire.

*** Frederick Louis of Hohenlohe-Ingelfingen began his military career against the Prussians during the last years of the Seven Years' War. In 1768, he joined the Prussian army with the rank of commander due to his prince status. In 1775 he became a lieutenant colonel. In 1778, he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession and at the same time was promoted to colonel. Shortly before the death of Frederick the Great, he was promoted to the rank of general. For a few years, Prince Frederick Louis was the garrison commander in Breslau until in 1791 he was appointed governor of Berlin. In 1794, he led a corps in the Prussian army on the Rhine and distinguished himself significantly in many engagements, particularly in the Battle of Kaiserslautern on September 20, but narrowly escaped capture on 2 fructidor year IV (August 19, 1796) during the Battle of Sulzbach.
