HISTORICAL CONTEXT:
The 15th Regiment of Dragoons (15th RD) is a unit of cavalry in the French Army.
It was created during the Revolution from the regiment of Noailles dragoons, a French cavalry regiment from the Ancien Régime. Disbanded at the end of the Napoleonic Wars, it was reestablished in 1871 and fought during the First World War. It was briefly reactivated at the beginning of the Second World War.

He joined in 1794 as a captain in the 2nd battalion of Gers volunteers, participated in the campaigns of 1796 and 1797 in Italy, Carinthia, and Tyrol.
He quickly rose through the ranks and was chosen by General Bonaparte to be part of the expedition to Egypt. His conduct and talents displayed at the beginning of the campaigns in Egypt and Syria earned him the rank of brigadier general on July 14, 1798. He entered Cairo at the head of the vanguard, distinguished himself notably at the sieges of El Arish and Saint-Jean-d'Acre, and at the battle of Heliopolis.
