* Louis Charles Antoine DESAIX, born on August 17, 1768, at the Ayat Castle in Ayat-sur-Sioule, Puy-de-Dôme, and died in combat on June 14, 1800, at Marengo, Italy, was a French general who distinguished himself during the revolutionary wars under the command of Bonaparte, notably in Egypt and Italy. As was customary at the time to distinguish himself from his brother, he added his family's fief name to his own and adopted the surname Desaix de Veygoux. Desaix was nicknamed the "Just Sultan."
