* François-Étienne Damas, born on June 22, 1764 in Paris, where he died on December 22, 1828, is a French general of the Revolution and the Empire. Son of a master joiner, he became a general at 29 years old. He distinguished himself during the siege of Mainz (1793), the campaign in Egypt with Napoleon Bonaparte, as well as during the campaign in Russia in 1812, notably at the crossing of the Berezina.
