Letter with French Republic vignette, addressed to "Chief of Brigade Conté, Commandant of the Arcostiers, Cassin-Cey House (?) in Cairo." Remnants of a red wax seal.
The secretary of General Berthier writes to Citizen Conté: "Headquarters of Cairo, 18 fructidor year 7" (September 4, 1799). (heading "DAMAS Divisional General, Chief of Staff, Army General" has been crossed out).
"I kindly request you, citizen commandant, if you have the copper vignettes of General Berthier, to please have the kindness to have them delivered to the General Staff Office."
I have the honor to salute you.

Poor condition, folds, damp stains, tears along the right edge with loss.
