*BIOGRAPHY: Augustin-Daniel Belliard, born on 25 May 1769 in Fontenay-le-Comte (Vendée) and died on 28 January 1832 in Brussels, Belgium, was a French general of the Revolution and the Empire. Serving in the Army of the North from 1791 to 1793 and the Army of Italy from 1796 to 1798, he took part in numerous battles of the French Revolution. He played a significant role in the campaigns in Italy and Egypt, for his actions against the revolt in Rome and for securing the French capitulation in Egypt. He then distinguished himself during the Empire for his participation in many battles (Ulm, Austerlitz, Jena, and Friedland in particular) which earned him the appointment as a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor. He was subsequently sent to Spain in 1808, where he was appointed governor of Madrid and became a member of the Empire's nobility.
[...] After his return from Egypt, Belliard, previously appointed Divisional General on 6 September 1800, took command of the 24th military division in Brussels; he remained there until 1804. In 1805 and 1806, he played a major role in the campaigns in Austria and Prussia, acting as chief of staff to Marshal Murat. He contributed to the victory at Ulm and distinguished himself at Austerlitz on 2 December 1805, being appointed a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor on the battlefield. He was the governor of Berlin and when the war resumed, he fought at Jena, Erfurt, Lubeck, Heilsberg, Hoff, Eylau, and Friedland between 1806 and 1807.
