1st Light Infantry Regiment. LETTER FROM COLONEL BOURGEOIS TO THE MINISTER OF WAR, informing that two troublesome individuals are sowing discord in the regiment, September 10, 1807. 18911-12
Colonel Bourgeois informs the Minister of the disorders caused by two soldiers, who are otherwise courageous and brave, but who are compromising the tranquility of the regiment, he requests their transfer to another Corps.
"Vérône, September 10, 1807". "Colonel Bourgeois, Legion of Honor officer, commanding the 1st regiment of Light Infantry".
"The tranquility of the regiment under my command is often compromised by two troublesome individuals who, for a long time, have made it their mission to use all means to introduce indiscipline. I am therefore forced to request to His Excellency the transfer of Messrs. VAN CUTSEM, captain of the carabiniers, member of the Legion of Honor, and CHOMÉ, captain of voltigeurs, as the punishments inflicted on them have not been able to correct their behavior.
I am convinced that these two officers, otherwise courageous and brave soldiers, once separated from those with whom they have developed a long-standing familiarity in handling the men, could easily be brought back to fulfill their duty [...].
Signed: Bourgeois".

* Charles-François Bourgeois, born on March 8, 1759 in Issy and died on July 11, 1821 in Paris, was a French general of the Revolution and the Empire.
In command of the 1st Light Infantry Regiment, 1803-1808:
Placed on inactive duty after the reorganization of the year XI, he wrote to the head of government to remind him of his past services and request employment. The First Consul entrusted him with the command of the 1st Light Infantry Regiment on the 1st Vendemiaire of the year XII, appointed him a knight of the Legion of Honor on the 19th Frimaire, and an officer of this order on the 25th Prairial of the same year. With equal distinction, he participated in the campaigns from the year XII to 1807 in the armies of Italy and Naples. He particularly distinguished himself in Calabria, during the battles of Martorano, Sainte-Euphémie, Reggio, and San Severo, on April 5, July 4 and 11, and November 5, 1806. He also excelled during the attack on Strongoli on February 22, 1807.
The 1st Light Infantry Regiment, which had suffered greatly during these long and exhausting campaigns, was to be reconstituted and reorganized in Verona in 1808. Transferred with his regiment to the army of Spain the following year, he covered himself in glory in Catalonia and Aragon, notably in the sieges of Valencia, Tortosa, and Tarragon, as well as the capture of Montserrat. The official bulletin cited him for his exceptional performance during the assault on Tarragon on June 21, 1811.
