* Jean-Baptiste Liégeard, born on March 5, 1770 in Dijon and died on April 16, 1834 in the same city, was a French cavalry officer of the Revolution, the Empire, and the Restoration. [...] In 1814, during the First Restoration, he was the colonel of the Hussars of Angoulême. He sided with Napoleon the following year and commanded his regiment ― which became the 5th Hussar Regiment again ― during the Belgian campaign. His unit then consisted of 417 men. Liégeard took part in the Battle of Ligny, the Battle of Waterloo, and the skirmish at Sèvres as part of the 1st Cavalry Corps. In 1816, he retired, his regiment having become the regiment of the Hussars of Bas-Rhin due to the Second Restoration. According to General Marcellin Marbot, "he was a man full of heart and bravery." He died on April 16, 1834, at 50 rue Chaudronnerie in Dijon, and was buried at the general cemetery after a funeral at Notre-Dame.
