HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
The 8th Infantry Regiment (8th RI) is an infantry regiment of the French Army created during the Revolution from the regiment of Austrasia, a French regiment of the Ancien Régime.
[...] from November 5, 1803 to March 5, 1811: Colonel Jean François Étienne Autié, killed in the Battle of Barossa.
[...] 1805:
the troops, around Hanover, which became the 1st army corps of Marshal Bernadotte, set out towards Austria on September 2, 1805, passing through Munich, crossing the Danube on November 15, and then through Bohemia to Iglau, reaching it on November 25. From there, on November 29, they were ordered to march to Austerlitz, where they arrived on the evening of December 1. During the battle, they remained in reserve, but participated in the pursuit and after the peace of Pressburg (Bratislava), the regiment was stationed in garrison at Iglau (currently Jihlava).

BIOGRAPHY:
Jean François Étienne Autié, born on June 10, 1771 in Villeneuve-lès-Béziers in Hérault and died on March 5, 1811 in Chiclana de la Frontera, Spain, was a French colonel of the Revolution and the Empire.
[...]
In recognition of services rendered by Colonel Autié, the Ligurian government granted him a reward of 3,000 francs, which he refused, instead accepting a sword engraved with the words: "The Ligurian government, to Colonel Autié". On October 5, 1803, he was appointed colonel of the 8th Line Infantry Regiment and joined his regiment in the Hanover army, commanded by General Bernadotte. He was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor on December 11, 1803, and an Officer of the Order on June 14, 1804.
During a review in Hanover in September 1804, General Rivaud de La Raffinière wrote about Colonel Autié: "has ease and activity, but a light head and commands his regiment like a little despot"...
