"We, Masters in the Art of Arms of the aforementioned Regiment, having been assembled by the Chief Master of the Corps, in order to examine the named NORMAND (...) of the 3rd Battalion 4th Company Tocqueville, having found in him the required qualities for PROVOST, have recognized and supported this with our signature, after having him swear obedience to the Masters and his Comrades [...]
Done in Valenciennes on April 1, 1819".
