FIREMAN'S HAT WITH HAIR PLUMES, July Monarchy - Second Empire. 32295
Made of natural leather, composed of stitched elements. At the level of the cap, the frame is cut on a bias, which brings down the back part.
The back of the frame is split in a triangle shape; on each edge, a strap, one of which is ended with a small iron buckle, both stitched. This mechanism allows for adjusting the size of the headgear to the owner's head circumference.
At the front, the hat measures 35 cm in height, 41 cm at the back, with a width of 28 cm at the top.
Bearskin made of numerous pieces stitched together, is threaded onto the frame and sewn at the bottom with the edge of the cap. At the location of the tightening buckle, the skin is cut to allow for adjusting the cap.
Plume holder stitched on its left. A small opening is made 13 cm from the bottom edge, intended to receive the base of the plume. Inside the skin, a leather gusset is sewn.
Black waxed sheepskin interior lining (cut in a wolf tooth pattern). The lower edge of the lining is folded outward over the frame, above the bearskin.
Front pom-pom braided in scarlet wool.
Scarlet horsehair plume, length of the hairs 28 cm, mounted on a whalebone.
