The 23rd line infantry regiment participated in the campaign of 1823 as part of the 1st corps of the Army of Spain.
In 1830, attached to the Army of Africa, it was part of the expeditionary force against the Régence of Algiers and took part in the campaigns of 1830 and 1831, notably at the siege and capture of Algiers from June 30 to July 5, 1830, at the battle and capture of Blida, and at the battle of Col de Mouzaïa in November of the same year.
