Brass three-bar guard with a quillon, modeled after the 1816 light cavalry saber. Short tang peen. Handle made of wood wrapped in calf leather and twisted brass wire filigree. Curved blade with hollow ground engraved on one side with the American eagle and on the other with the inscription "HOUNOR AND MY COUNTRY," length 82.3 cm. Natural leather knot.

Medium condition, hilt in good condition, blade oxidized, missing scabbard.
NOTES:
This saber model is directly inspired by the French light cavalry saber, model 1816. This saber model was the most common in the American cavalry during the Civil War from 1861 to 1865, even more so than the 1860 model. Produced in 1858, this specimen was therefore used during this conflict.
