COURT SWORD IN STEEL MARCASITE, reign of Louis XVI, Ancient Monarchy, from 1790. 32288
Guard and handle entirely in polished steel marcasite decorated with nails with raised heads cut in the shape of diamond points, and beaded ribbons. Double-shell guard and rings. Chain adorned with faceted steel pearls, serving as guard branches. Finely decorated hilt like the handle and pierced, scalloped on its outer edge. Triangular blade engraved and gilded on its first third with floral motifs and the inscription "LONG LIVE THE KING", scarlet wool knot. Length 85.4 cm. Ivory shagreen-covered wooden scabbard with two iron fittings decorated with fillets. Tip signed "J Waite N° 187 Strand".

Good condition, minor damage and slight lack on the hilt, superb blade retaining all its colors.
NOTE:
This sword was made by a French noble who emigrated to Great Britain during the Revolution, hence the English sword cutler.
