SUPERIOR OFFICER'S SWORD OF THE FRENCH GENDARMERIE, Ancient Monarchy, circa 1767-1780. 32287
Silver and vermeil hilt with double reverse quillon. Shell guard bordered by a ribbed band with foliage. Guard branch decorated identically to the shell guard. Round-shaped pommel with foliage. Wood handle entirely filigreed in silver. Triangular blade engraved and gilt on its first third, depicting floral trophies on one side and the personification of Justice with the inscription "JUSTICIA" on the other side, all on a blued background. Blade length 78 cm. Scarlet cloth sword knot.

Very good condition, fleur-de-lis decorations on the blade removed during the Revolution, scabbard missing.
