PAIR OF CAMPAIGN GAITERS-LEGGINGS OF THE ZOUAVES, Second Empire - Third Republic. 31241R

A genuine pair originally, one of which has been shortened, with the buttons and their positioning modified.

Made of fine linen fabric, lined with scarlet wool cloth. Consisting of three pieces covering the front of the leg and the forefoot, embellished along the entire length of the outer edge with 25 buttonholes in bis linen threads, stopped by a seam in alternating blue and red threads, also evenly spaced apart, and adorned with a houndstooth patterned felt braid, scarlet wool fabric cut similarly in houndstooth design. Fastened with black lacquered metal jingle bells buttons, and white porcelain buttons for the second gaiter.
Height for the complete gaiter: 42 cm
Height for the shortened gaiter: 37 cm
Matriculated and assigned to the "3-Z," 3rd Zouaves.
