IMPERIAL GUARD "GUARD MARINES" SAILORS' SABER, First Empire (1804-1815). 31153
A saber entirely made of brass with a leather scabbard, the design of which was created in 1804 by the cutler DUC.
Guard with one hollow branch, H 12.2 cm without quillon, outer ear in the shape of a shield, H 5.5 cm, engraved with an anchor (completely erased), the guard branch ends with a ball quillon struck with the "DUC" hallmark. The guard has an open crossguard below. Cap with a short tang, H 8.9 cm. Handle made of wood covered with straight brass filigree leather.
Klingenthal blade with hollow facets, 69.5 cm long, 4.3 cm wide at the heel, and 6.9 cm wide at the flare, approximately 1 cm thick at the back of the heel, with a strong tip bevel. It is engraved on each side with "IMPERIAL GUARD" in large cursive letters within a rope cartouche, anchor, and palmettes, with a grooved back.
Black waxed leather scabbard with three brass fittings, brass throat, brass rings. Brass ring staples. Scabbard length 72.5 cm. Leather of the scabbard stamped with an anchor (difficult to read) under the strap halfway down the scabbard.

Good condition, saber never cleaned, oxidation stains on the blade, anchor engraved on the quillons is nearly erased and difficult to read, the wooden buffer pads of the scabbard have been removed, slight chipping on the leather of the scabbard, the brass threads of the chape and the tip of the scabbard have disappeared but their imprint on the leather is still visible.
