Imperial Guard. ELITE GENDARMERIE. SIGNED AUTOGRAPH LETTER HENRY, Baron of the Empire, Colonel Major of the Guard Gendarmerie, TO THE DUKE OF FELTRE, February 20, 1812. 18907-30
On February 20, 1812, Baron Henry wrote a lengthy letter to the Duke of Feltre, Minister of War (written in almost phonetic handwriting). He informs the Duke of the promotions of other leaders of the Guard and expresses his disappointment that he is never mentioned. He then elaborates on his dedication, his services, and his hope for promotion.
"[...] The majors of the Old Guard have the rank of General, I have seen them all arrive one after the other [...] I will serve His Majesty with all my soul, if I do not have many means, my good will must count for something given the service I have rendered for eleven years where I have spent so many sleepless nights [...] I have reason to believe that I have been forgotten in the latest promotions, and at the new year, only you, Monseigneur, can bring me the happiness that, however small it may be, a man always has some self-respect, mine suffers on the verge of entering the campaign [...]".
