It existed from 1818 to 1945 and belonged to the district of Gumbinnen. The name of the district refers to the castle of Oletzko, a long-standing seat of the district office, located in the town of Marggrabowa (1928-1945 Treuburg). From 1752 to 1818, there was already a district of Oletzko in East Prussia, but it covered a much larger territory.
