BIOGRAPHY:
- Jean RAPP, Count Rapp, born in Colmar on 27 April 1771 and died in Rheinweiler on 8 November 1821, was a French general and politician of the Revolution and the Empire.
[...] Egyptian Campaign
In Egypt, new battles brought him new successes. Jean Rapp stood out at the Sediman combat on 7 October 1798, capturing the enemy artillery, an exploit that earned him promotion to CHIEF OF SQUADRON.
On 22 January 1799, sent on a reconnaissance mission, he advanced on the MAMELUKS' outposts, put them to flight, entered the village of Samanhoud, and engaged in an unequal struggle, in which he would have surely succumbed if the carbineers of the 21st light had not promptly rescued him. Seriously wounded by a kandjar blow to the left shoulder, he went to Cairo for treatment. Promoted to the rank of chief of brigade on 14 February 1799, Rapp followed his general to Europe.
- Antoine Charles Bernard DELAITRE was a French general, born on 13 January 1776 in Paris, and died on 1 July 1838 in the same city.
In the cavalry of the Guard: from Mameluks to Polish Chevau-Legers: on the 25th Germinal year X (15 April 1802), he was appointed quartermaster captain and tasked with reorganizing the consular guard's Mameluks squadron.
