"TRIAL OF GENERAL CAMBRONNE,
Accused of bearing arms against France on March 20, 1815, and attempting to overthrow the legitimate Government by force of arms.
VERDICT declaring him not guilty, ordering him to return to his duties, but, in accordance with the Prosecutor's request, to remain in prison for twenty-four hours."
Four printed pages detailing the trial, concluding with the pronouncement of the judgment below:
"[...] At three o'clock, the council deliberated and did not reach a decision until seven-thirty.
The council declared:
1. Unanimously, that Brigadier General Cambronne was not guilty of betraying the King before March 23, 1815.
2. By a majority of six votes to one, not guilty of attacking France and the government by armed force.
3. By a majority of five out of seven votes, not guilty of seizing power by violence.
Therefore, General Cambronne is acquitted of the charges, but will only be released in twenty-four hours.
After the pronouncement of the judgment, cries of Long Live the King! echoed throughout the room."
