Nice set of two documents.
- Letter addressed "To Monsieur / Monsieur Maumet, Lieutenant in the Royal Corps of Staff, Aide de Camp of Mr. General Desprez / Rue de Varenne, hotel .., Royal Corps of Staff in Paris" for Lieutenant Maumet.
Postal stamp "January 26, 1825".
Header: "The Camp Marshal Bon Nicolas, Colonel of the 11th Regiment of Chasseurs in 1812, Russian Company." Paris, January 27, 1825, to Mr. General Count de Ségur, author of the History of the Grande Armée in Russia.
Interesting and lengthy letter addressed to Lieutenant Maumet, for General Count de Ségur, author of the "History of the Grande Armée in Russia", in which he provides corrections to the latter's work, especially regarding the movements and engagements of the 11th regiment of chasseurs à cheval that he commanded. Pages of the book concerned: p. 255 and p. 328.
He then mentions a wounded adjutant who "received 20 lance blows, after his horse was killed under him during a reconnaissance, he was stripped by the Cossacks, thrown into a ditch, and covered with earth, along with a Russian officer he had killed. He remained like this for 4 hours, at dusk, he recognized himself, headed towards the French army and arrived the next morning at a post of the 5th hussars, this officer presented to Napoleon, was appointed lieutenant, and a few months later adjutant major. In this latter rank, behind Troyes, campaign of France, his arm was shattered by a cannonball, initially amputated below the elbow, and the next day Mr. LARREY performed a second one by removing [...]. 2 pages, double sheet. - An accompanying letter signed "Maumet", explaining that the letter from the Camp Marshal Baron Nicolas "was suggested to him by reading a passage from your work on Napoleon & the Grande Armée in 1812. Mr. General Nicolas, while passing through Paris, and feeling a bit unwell, regretted not being able to transmit it to you in person..."
