AUTOGRAPH LETTER OF FRANÇOIS TERRAVALIEN, stationed in Germany, TO HIS PARENTS residing in Paris, Brunswick, March 12, 1810. 18857-4
Letter addressed on behalf of his father, a "wallpaper manufacturer for hangings at 249 Rue du Faubourg St Antoine in Paris." Remnant of red wax seal. Two overlapping military postal marks: one illegible, the other "BRAUNSCHWEIGH."
Phonetic writing.
Brunswick, March 12, 1810
I am writing to inquire about the state of your health, as well as that of my brothers and sisters, and also my uncle and aunt. As for myself, I am doing well, and I hope this letter finds you in good health too.
I will tell you that we have just traveled 300 leagues. We have suffered greatly from the bad weather, and also from the thaw on our journey. Currently, we are in Brunswick until further orders.
I must inform you that we are very unhappy because we are staying with civilians, receiving provisions from them, and are burdened with duty. My dear father, if possible, please send me something; it would greatly please me.
Give my regards to my brothers and sisters, uncle and aunt, cousins, and all who care for me. I conclude by sending you my deepest embrace, and I remain for life your son, Terravalien François.
