He thanks his father for his two previous letters, dated July 12th and April 24th. He is in good health and is happy to hear that his parents are also well.

Three pages of beautifully written, dense and detailed text, describing the battles with the Spanish troops at Moguer, and then with Spanish and Portuguese troops at Badajos. "The French troops have many sick in the hospitals, and the non-commissioned officers are not spared."

"Since my last letter to you from Seville on July 14, our Regiment has made many movements, our 1st Battalion, 2nd company of the 2nd & the 27th Regiment of Chasseurs à cheval, went to replace other troops in a small fort called Moguer on the coast, 18 leagues from here and west of Cadiz, around August 20th the English landed with 6 thousand Spanish troops near that place, who attacked our men, they retreated without losing anyone, except a post of 10 to 12 men who were taken or slaughtered, due to the mistake of the adjutant-major who had not withdrawn it, then Prince d'Harenberg * colonel of the 27th Chrs who was in command wanted to advance on the enemy who had 4 to 5 times more troops, forced our men to retreat three leagues from here...".
