OFFICER'S HELMET OF THE NATIONAL GUARD ON HORSEBACK, model 1814-1830, Restoration period. Item number 34452
Silver-plated copper helmet, with all fittings in gilt brass. Height of the helmet 16 cm. It is stamped in two parts welded together at the top.
Front plate depicting a large oval shield in the center of which a silver-plated copper fleur-de-lis is affixed, this shield is topped with the royal crown and framed on each side by a palm and an oak branch.
Rear band with molded relief.
Silver-plated copper visor, lined with waxed green leather and encircled by a fillet folded over the outer edge.
Neck cover identical to the visor, lined with waxed black leather, encircled by a fillet folded over the outer edge.
Chinstraps composed of two fine leather straps sheathed in velvet, covered with gilt brass scales cut into festoons; two rosettes in the shape of a radiant sun in gilt brass with a fleur-de-lis at the center, also in silver-plated copper, are attached to them. Finished with a black cotton cord.
Plume holder in tubular shape with a square section tapering downwards, decorated at the top with a molded ribbon.
Crest in three parts: two wings and a mask. Two wings embossed in relief with a decreasing sequence of nine flutes surmounted by a pearl. Height of the wings 10 cm. The lower part is folded outwards, cut into festoons and fixed to the helmet by 4 gilt brass screws. The mask is decorated with prominent moldings and equipped with a hook at the bottom; it is attached to the helmet at the bottom by a rivet.
Black horsehair chain that extends about 9 cm from the crest.
Inner lining composed of a band of waxed black calf leather.
Total height of the helmet 34 cm.

Restoration period.
Very good condition, the brass parts retained all their gilding, superb helmet, slight dent on the right side, worn inner lining, two missing wolf teeth. The upper part of the inner lining, originally made of silk, is missing.
NOTE:
This helmet has a simplified crest decoration, its convex upper part is steeper than usual, which gives it a more compact shape typical of provincial helmets.
