Made of black felted wool, bordered with a woven laurel branch braid. Height at the front 10 cm, height at the back 13 cm, length 47 cm, width 16 cm. Tricolor passementerie cockade. Gilt brass braid stamped to imitate trimmings, secured by a half-spherical button bearing the name and coat of arms of the École Polytechnique. Interior leather sweatband. Crimson silk lining, stamped in gold "André Berthet SPECIALIST IN UNIFORM HATS 33 Blvd St Martin PARIS".
