REPUBLICAN GUARD ADJUTANT'S SHAKO, model 1906, Third Republic. 27817
In the shape of a truncated oblique cone, the frame made of strong cardboard covered in fine dark blue cloth, with a leather cap and chinstrap in black varnished cowhide, and a frontal cockade stamped with radiating tinplate rays in the national colors of blue-white-red. The false chinstrap consists of a flat chain made of intertwined copper circular rings held to the frame by two round rosettes stamped with a grenade emblem.
Around the upper perimeter of the cap, there is a fine gold lace in a cul-de-dé pattern, with an orange wool band woven directly into the lace. On each side framing the ventilation eyelets, there is a V-shaped chevron in gold lace and dark orange wool.
The 1906 model copper plate, embossed and cut, depicts the coat of arms and motto of Paris surrounded by laurel leaves on the right and oak leaves on the left, joined by a knot from which the Legion d'Honneur Cross hangs.
The visor is made of black varnished leather, with a waxed green interior.
The interior lining consists of a black waxed sheepskin headband. Inside the frame, there is a label from Alexis GENDRON in Paris. The shako is numbered "1750" and renumbered "422".
Complete with its black varnished leather chinstrap.
