PAIR OF FLINTLOCK PISTOLS SIGNED POITEVIN IN ANGOULEME, Ancient Monarchy, circa 1745. 30095
Octagonal then round barrels, very slightly swamped at the muzzle, length 22.5 cm, with the breech tang 27.5 cm, caliber 15 mm., engraved and gilt on the octagonal part with flowers on a blued background. Flat-bodied locks, engraved on a fine gold ground with foliage, signed "Poitevin a Angouleme." Hammers similarly decorated to the locks. Side plates with facets. All fittings in cut steel, decorated with flowers and foliage on a fine gold ground. Butts with long ears. Oval pommel caps with grotesque mask. Thumb pieces in silver representing an unengraved coat of arms under a comital crown. Stocks of carved walnut with scrolls and leafy corollas. Whalebone ramrods with steel fittings.
Overall length of each pistol 38 cm.
