Made of cardboard covered in fine black cloth, measuring 9.4 cm at the front and 16 cm at the back, bordered at the top with a woven golden lizard-patterned braid, and at the bottom with a black varnished leather chinstrap. On each side at the top, there is a black lacquered metal vent, and a golden braid with a black silk stripe in the center arranged in a V shape. The top is made of black varnished leather. The visor is made of round black varnished leather, lined underneath with waxed green leather. Tricolor lacquered metal cockade. The frontal plate is made of gilded brass, stamped and cut in the shape of a breastplate and a pot at the head of the engineer resting on crossed sword and axe, with oak and laurel branches. The interior band is made of black varnished leather, heat-stamped with gold. The shako is lined with black silk fabric, with a black paper label at the bottom of the crown, gilded in gold "MARTIN Montpellier". The spherical pompon is made of wood covered with golden bullion threads.
