Hussar Officer's Shako, model 1874, Third Republic. 27779
Made of paperboard covered with dark sky blue cloth, bordered on the upper part by a 3 cm wide woven silver lizard braid, and on the lower part with a black varnished leather chinstrap. Height of the shako is 11 cm at the front, and 15.5 cm at the back. The front is decorated with a Hungarian knot in silver braid applied under the cockade, a tricolor enameled metal cockade with a silver braid loop, all attached to the shako with a silver half-bell button. On each side, there is a dark sky blue lacquered copper aeration hole. The top is made of black varnished leather. The round-shaped visor is made of black varnished leather, with a brass wire folded over the outer edge and lined with green basane on the inside. The chinstrap is made of gilt brass chain mounted on black velvet-lined leather, secured to the shako with three lion heads, one on each side on the chinstrap and one at the top back. The interior cap is made of ochre basane cut into six wolf's teeth. The shako lining is made of ochre silk printed with a comital crown background with the initials "JC".
