Campaign in Germany. SOLDIER'S LETTER SIGNED "CAMILLE" TO HIS MOTHER MADAME DE TOURGEL (FOURGEL ?) residing in Paris, Torgau, September 10, 1813. 18856-3
The cavalry officer Camille de Tourgel (Fourgel ?) writes to his mother "Madame de Tourgel (Fourgel ?) Rue de Lille 84 Paris".
"Torgau, the 10th of September 1813.
The Marshal (Ney) commanding the army near Witembert has just fought a great battle. We have never been more exposed. Fortunately, I managed to come out of it without wounds. But my poor horses have suffered greatly. This affair and its consequences cost me my 3 best horses, which puts me in a very sad position. I will try to face adversity with a good heart.
Farewell my dear Mother, Receive the affection of my very tender and respectful attachment.
Signed Camille".
