Black patent leather two-piece helmet molded and sewn together at the center (approximately 17 cm deep), with a black patent leather visor and neck cover. All fittings are gilded brass.
The visor forms a point in the center, lined with a gilded brass trim folded over the outer edge and secured by four flat-headed rivets. The interior is waxed green. Width of 6 cm.
The neck cover is not edged, black waxed inside. Width of 3 cm.
Frontal plate, stamped and gilded brass with polished relief decorations, height 16.5 cm. It depicts the Arms of France surmounted by the royal crown, with a flaming thunderbolt below, and at the bottom, a ribbon with the relief inscription of the Gendarmes de la Garde motto, "QUO JUBET IRATUS JUPITER" - "Where Angry Jupiter Commanded" or "Where Jupiter's wrath indicates."
On each side of the helmet, a flaming thunderbolt is attached, emitting lightning.
Chin straps each composed of a leather chin strap covered in black velvet, with 18 scalloped scales alternately of 4 or 3 scallops, the second-to-last scale has two scallops and the last one has only one; finished with golden silver tassels. Rosette stamped with a lion's head, diameter 4.7 cm.
Crest of gilded stamped brass decorated with panels of foliage corollas from which lightning bolts emerge. It consists of a mask and two decreasing flaps towards the back, with a maximum height of 12.5 cm. The base of the flaps is folded outward, scalloped, and secured to the helmet by four conical-headed screws each. At the base of the mask, a gilded brass hook secures the frontal plate and the mask to the helmet and serves to attach the chin straps.
The crest is equipped with a black horsehair brush with an apparent height of 8 cm, extending 6 cm in front and 4 cm at the back.
Gilded brass plume holder, tubular in shape with a slightly decreasing square section towards the bottom, height 5.2 cm.
Internal liner composed of a black waxed leather headband topped with a black silk turban.
Total height of the helmet 39 cm.

Perfect state of preservation, with slight wear on the chin strap cords.
NOTE:
Rosettes with a lion's head and not a medusa are a variant that is quite rarely observed on officer, non-commissioned officer, or trumpeter helmets of the Gendarmes and Chevau-légers of the King's Military Household.
