"Erfurt, March 12, 1812.
My dear Félicité, I arrived in Erfurt on the 9th of this month with my headquarters and we are leaving tomorrow for Leipzig from where, after a few stays, we will head towards Breslau as it is presumed.
My director wants to leave the army Corps to stay in a district in the rear, I feel like doing the same… We have been assigned a General of Division named Mr. Mathier Dumas as intendant general... I am in good health and that is what suits me...
Today I found a charming servant, exactly what I need, he is from here, his name is Henry Cassaver, he has served in Germany and in Italy, he speaks French, German, Polish, and Italian. In every respect, he is a very valuable man for me, he hails from a country where all men are honest...
I have already made arrangements with my Guard M(?) of the headquarters, who wants to bring his wife who lives in Metz, she has a good carriage and speaks German very well as she was born in Berlin… She has a 3-year-old child who she will bring with her and you have little Fortuné. You will travel together from Metz to Berlin, I will write to you in more detail about all this when the time comes..."
