German Army. AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED BAUDOT TO HIS WIFE, Sonnenbourg on the Oder, April 12, 1812. 18855-11
Letter written to his wife Caroline, with address "Monsieur Oberlin Justice of the Peace in Haguenau, Department of Bas-Rhin." Postmark "No. 36 GERMAN ARMY." Red wax seal.
"Sonnenbourg on April 12, 1812, on the right bank of the Oder.
My dear Caroline, we arrived yesterday in these new quarters which are still Prussian, but we are as uncomfortable here as in Poland, where we will soon be entering. We do not know how long we will be in this country, but the sooner we leave, the better it will be. We are already 200 leagues from Cologne, and we have covered at least 260 due to the detours we have taken. Since our departure, we have only had four stops, including four days we spent near Erfurt, so you see, my dear and good friend, that with the weather and the roads we have had, we were not comfortable. However, what pleases me is that I am well.
Give my regards to our dear parents..."
"Good day, my dear and tender Caroline, I embrace you as I love you, that is, with all my soul. Your sincere and faithful husband, Baudot."
