Military medal, engraved by Désiré Albert Barre, in silver, gilt, and enamel, featuring on the obverse side the effigy of the Emperor, bordered by a blue enamel band, with the inscription "LOUIS NAPOLÉON" and framed by a laurel leaf crown; reverse side, central medallion with the inscription "VALOR AND DISCIPLINE," bordered by a blue enamel band, and the same laurel leaf crown from the obverse. Height 4.2 cm, width 2.4 cm.
Two-sided bale, one-piece, fixed on the medal, featuring a spread-winged eagle on a thunderbolt.
Ribbon in yellow silk with two light green vertical stripes.
