DRAGOON HELMET, model 1872 modified 1874, Third Republic. 27772

One-piece steel helmet, stamped with a balance, planed with a hammer, and polished with a brush, marked "ALEXIS GODILLOT", size 55. It is pierced at the top with four suction holes (diameter 1.5 cm).
Visor, also made of steel, edged with a 6 mm wide copper circle placed over its edges and attached at the ends by a rivet. The underside of the visor is covered with green waxed leather.
Nape guard, also made of steel, edged with a 6 mm wide copper setting placed over it.
Copper headband stamped with a flaming grenade surrounded by laurel leaves adhered to the helmet. Its base rests on the visor and its ends are riveted to the helmet in the part concealed by the rosette of the chinstrap.
Each chinstrap is made up of 15 copper scales alternately cut in groups of three or two scallops, decreasing in width from the top, which is 3.5 cm, to the last, which is only 2 cm wide. The right chinstrap is adorned at its end with a small copper plate riveted to which a copper buckle is attached. At the end of the left chinstrap, there is a similar plate with a copper D fitted with a black varnished calf leather strap.
The top scale of each chinstrap is covered with a movable copper rosette, independent of the chinstrap, circular in shape (diameter 4.2 cm) featuring four relief stripes. Rosettes are fixed to the helmet with a lock.
Helmet topped with a copper crest composed of two fins, a mask, and a covering.
The fins, vertically placed 3.2 cm apart in the front and 2.5 cm in the back, have a convex curvilinear triangle shape at their upper part meeting the helmet with a concave base forming a scalloped rim.
This rim is fixed to the helmet by four round-headed copper screws (2 per fin) with suet drops that are secured inside the helmet by square copper nuts.
Fins adorned with palmettes and a border net; the rim is embellished with water leaves, all embossed in relief.
A tinplate joins the upper edges of the fins to fix their spacing.
The mask, serving as the front junction of the two fins through a solder, stamped with a relief Medusa head. The covering, also embossed, represents the continuation of the Medusa head's hair with intertwined serpents (length 9 cm).
Black horsehair mane, approximately 77 cm long.
Copper-stamped plume holder, H 3.2 cm, forming a sleeve, fixed obliquely from bottom to top on the helmet, a little forward of the left chinstrap, using two threaded rods through the helmet.
Black waxed leather inner lining cut into seven wolf teeth with eyelets. Felt turban, in one piece.
