Gilt bronze hilt in the style of 1821. Guard with two side branches and narrow plate decorated with laurel leaves and acanthus leaves, quillon. Cap with short-tailed ridge. Filigree horn handle with gilt brass. Curved blade with hollow facets, length 75.2 cm; signed on the heel "Mare Impale de Châtt mars 1856 S.O. d'Infrie de la garde Mle 1854." Scarlet cloth tie. Black varnished leather scabbard with three gilt brass fittings. Small black wool dress knot with oval braided tassel, typical of the ones used by the Zouaves.
