OFFICER'S SABER OF THE CHASSEURS À CHEVAL, Revolution. 30108
Gilt bronze hilt. One-branch guard decorated with lines. Cap with a long tail and lion head pommel. Handle made of wood fully filigreed with copper. Curved blade with hollow bevels engraved and gilded on its first third, depicting on one side a Turk's head and floral decorations, and on the other side the inscription "VAINCRE OU MOURIR" (To Conquer or Die) with leafy corollas and weapon trophies, all on a blued background. Blade length 84.4 cm. Scarlet cloth cravat. Wooden scabbard covered in black varnished leather with two large brass fittings with scalloped edges and line decorations, connected by two lateral brass straps, the tip of the scabbard ending in a steel dart.
