FIRE HELMET, or TIN FIRE HELMET, Second Empire. 24503
Tin-plated iron fire helmet coated with black varnish, consisting of a semi-spherical crown and a straight headband. Riveted visor and neck guard. Brass crest, each flap embossed with 14 flutes, mask embossed with a flaming bomb with a heart-shaped lower part. Brass embossed front badge of a flaming bomb placed on two crossed axes. Each jugular made up of a leather chin strap covered with a brass plate embossed with scalloped scales, held to the bomb by a rosette embossed with flutes.

Good condition, missing the chin straps and the inner lining, two holes drilled on the top of the crest for attaching a plume.
NOTE:
These helmets appeared under the July Monarchy and were still listed in suppliers' catalogs in the 1900s.
