FIRE HELMET, or SHEET METAL FIRE HELMET, Second Empire. 24505
Tin-plated iron fire helmet covered in black varnish, consisting of a half-spherical crown and a straight headband. Visor and neck cover riveted with brass trim. Brass crest, model for cavalry 1845-1858 cut in height, each fin stamped with eight gadroons separated by acanthus leaves, mask stamped with a flaming bomb. Front insignia stamped in brass of a flaming bomb resting on two crossed axes.

Fair condition, oxidation on the paint, missing the plume holder, chinstraps, and inner lining.
NOTE:
These helmets first appeared under the July Monarchy and were still featured in supplier catalogs in the 1900s.
