TROOP UNIFORM OF THE REGIMENT OF GUIDES OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD, model 1857, Second Empire. 27083

COLBACK
Strong leather carcass covered with bearskin, H 20 cm at the front, H 25 cm at the rear. Cap diameter 20 cm, covered with a flame in braided madder cloth piped with a golden yellow soutache finished with a golden yellow wool pompom. Length of the flame 36 cm (without the pompom). On the top of the front of the carcass in the upper part, there is a gusset serving as a feather holder (4 cm from the top of the carcass, 3 cm wide). On each side in the lower part a black lacquered iron hook (H 2.2 cm) to hold the chin strap. Chin strap in calfskin covered in black waxed sheepskin, covered with a curb chain made of intertwined brass rings.
Inner cap in soft black waxed leather cut into seven wolf teeth. The inside of the cap is hot stamped with the “RDG” regiment and dated “1866”, registered “1161”, carcass marked in black ink “GON / Fourreur / RUE VIVVIENNE / PARIS”.
Half-ellipso shape pompom idea in golden yellow wool thistle mounted on wood covered at the back with golden yellow cloth (H 7 cm, L 5 cm, thickness 3 cm) at the back stem in doubled iron.
White friezed rooster feather plume with longer upper feathers and black feathers at its base, mounted on a rib reinforced with a double-folded iron rod. Total H 45 cm, apparent H of feathers 30 cm including 6 cm of longer feathers, apparent H of black feathers 13 cm. Tulip pompom in golden brass.
Good condition, some missing fur, missing right chin strap retaining hook.

DOLMAN, model 1855.
Dolman model of the regulations of June 9, 1853 specified by the description of June 15, 1857, entirely in dark green cloth (between 1855 and 1857 the collar was in madder cloth), closing straight at the front by means of 18 smooth brass bell buttons . The front is trimmed with 18 braids of golden yellow wool with five rows of buttons. The back is decorated at the top with a Hungarian knot in golden yellow piping. The seams and false pockets are trimmed on each side with piped golden yellow braid. Cloth collar of the gold-yellow braided uniform. Madder cloth facings edged with a golden yellow wool braid forming a point. Interior lining in ecru canvas bearing the ink stamps of the regiment: “Rt des GIdes”, dated 3rd quarter 1868, registered “1511”, ink stamps corresponding to costumer inventory numbers and an ink stamp of the costumer “ Gaston COURTOIS Costume designer Paris”. Interior waist belt in ocher leather.
Good condition, moth holes and repairs to the green cloth including one sleeve along the braids.

GIBERNE, model of June 9, 1853.
Bleached buffalo banner, width 5.7 cm, with stitched edges. Brass buckle composed of a rectangular buckle, a bar, a shield finishing the banner and at the front a radiant sun with uncrowned imperial eagle connected to the crown of the Guides by means of two curb chains. It is registered “1443”, dated the 1st quarter of 1955 and with the regimental marking “RDG” (Régiment des Guides).
Black waxed leather box with brass sides with rings allowing the attachment of the pin rings and oval-shaped loops for the banner. Below the box, brass nail for fixing the tab, H 6.5 cm, width at the top 18.5 cm, width at the bottom 18 cm. Black patent leather tab dated 1855, registered “1509” and marking of the regiment “RDG (Régiment des Guides), at the back is sewn a leather tab intended to attach to the box; it is bordered by a brass framing rod and its center a brass plate is cut in the shape of a radiant sun stamped with an “N” surmounted by the crown of the Guides, H of the tab 10 cm, width in part high 21 cm, width at the bottom 22.2 cm.
Very good state.

BIOGRAPHY of the soldier who wore the dolman:
Pierre TOURNERIE domiciled in Eauze commune in the department of Gers, born May 24, 1846, miller by profession. Incorporated into the Guides de la Garde regiment on September 5, 1867, registered under number 583 on the contingent list of the department of Gers (class of 1866), arrived in the regiment on September 6, 1867.
He campaigned against Germany in 1870/1871 from October 29, 1870 to June 14, 1871.
Incorporated into the corps on April 1, 1871 as a hussar 1st class, arrived in the corps on June 18, 1871.
He ended his career as a mounted policeman in the Gers company (in Auch), removed from control on February 21, 1872.
