OFFICER'S SHAKO OF THE CHASSEURS À CHEVAL, model 1874, Third Republic. 27994
Made of cardboard covered with sky blue cloth, bordered on the upper part with a 2.8 cm high galloon, woven in a Hungarian point called "lizard galloon" in silver trimmings; black varnished leather peak; hunting horn, symbol of the regiment, in gilded brass, H 3 cm, width 5 cm. Cockade made of stamped white iron with a tricolor enamel sunburst, to which a square double-strand silver trimmings braid is attached and secured by a smooth half-spherical gold button. On the sides, brass ventilators painted the color of the background cloth. Chinstrap with a gilded brass chain adorned with black velvet; on the sides and back of the shako, at the level of the galloon and peaks, three gilded metal lion heads are used to secure the chinstrap; round-shaped peak, black varnished leather top rimmed with a gilded brass band folded over the outer edge, peak width 5 cm; underside of peak in waxed brown leather.
Interior lining in golden brown leather cut into six wolf teeth, sky blue silk inside the shako.
Spherical pompon made of silver trimmings with a small cord for junior officers.
