NAVAL OFFICER'S SWORD, model 1872, type 1902-1912, Third Republic.
Gilt brass hilt. Two-branch guard forming a shell at the front, decorated and pierced with a naval anchor on a background of reeds and foliage. Cap with long tail decorated with floral motifs and scallop shells. Horn grip. Brass ferrule. Slightly curved white blade with double groove, rounded back edge, ribbed back, length 67.5 cm. Back signed "Manufacture of Klingenthal & Cie". Scarlet cloth knot. Black varnished leather scabbard with two gilt brass fittings richly decorated in relief with naval anchors and foliage, palmettes, and scallop shells. The scabbard throat has a carrying ring and a button in the shape of a fleur-de-lis for wearing at the belt.

Very good condition, some rubbing and a fold on the scabbard.
NOTE:
This model of sword with a scabbard having two carrying rings instead of three is of the type used between 1902 and 1912. It is a rare model to find.
