Croix de Malte à quatre rayons doubles à pointes boutonnées émaillées, centre des branches or bordées d'émail blanc, centres oblongs, avers présentant en pied Saint Louis couronné cuirassé d'or recouvert d'un manteau bleu fourré d'hermines noires tenant de la main dextre la Couronne d'épines de la Passion et de la main senestre une couronne de feuilles de laurier, posé sur un parterre vert, sur fond d'émail rouge, et bordé d'un listel bleu roi portant la légende « LUD. M. INS 1693 », pour Ludovicus Magnus Instituit 1693 (Louis le Grand l'institua en 1693). Revers présentant une épée en pal passée entre deux rameaux de feuilles de laurier formant couronne et reliés par un ruban blanc sur fond d'émail rouge, bordé d'un listel bleu roi avec la légende « BELL. E VIRTUTIS. PRAEM. », pour Bellicae virtutis praemium (récompense de la vertu militaire), anneau cannelé.
H 41 mm, largeur 38 mm.
Ruban écarlate à raie blanche au milieu.
