OFFICER'S NAVAL SABRE, model 1872, Third Republic.
Gilded brass hilt. Guard with two branches forming a scallop shell at the front, decorated and pierced with a crowned naval anchor surrounded by reeds and oak leaves. Cap with a long tail decorated with floral motifs. Ebony handle with filigree brass. Slightly curved white blade with gutters and hollow flutes, curved back edge, reeded spine, measuring 67.5 cm in length. Back signed "M...". Brown leather knot. Black varnished leather scabbard with three gilded brass fittings. Chape decorated with a naval anchor, with a button at the top for belt attachment and a ring for shoulder strap. Central fitting with a ring for shoulder strap attachment. Engraved foliage on the drag.
