HELMET AND CUIRASS OF THE 4th REGIMENT OF CUIRASSIERS, model 1872 1874 model, Third Republic.
Helmet made entirely of steel with brass trimmings.
Dome made of cast and pressed steel, pierced at the top with three vent holes. Stamped by the manufacturer "ALEXIS GODILLOT", with serial number "572", dated 1875 "75", assigned to the 4th Regiment of Cuirassiers "4 C". Height of the dome 11.5 cm. Total height 31.5 cm.
Visor, width 5.5 cm, edged with a 6 mm wide brass strip placed on both edges. Underside of the visor covered with green waxed leather and underside of the neck guard covered with black waxed leather.
Neck guard consisting of a circular band on its flat surface, welded under the rear edge of the extending band, featuring three brass nails with hemispherical heads riveted inside; a second concave band, forming a gorge with rounded corners and welded inside, below the first band, bordered by a copper setting placed on top.
Bandeau, made of brass, embossed with a flaming grenade surrounded by laurel leaves, attached to the dome. Its base rests on the visor, and its ends are riveted to the dome in the part hidden by the rosette of the chin strap.
Each chin strap is composed of 15 copper scales alternately cut into three or two festoons decreasing in width, fastened with flat iron nails on a leather core lined with black sheepskin (maximum width 3.5 cm, minimum width 1.9 cm). The right chin strap is adorned at its end with a small copper plate to which a copper buckle is attached. At the end of the left one, there is a similar plate with a copper D decorated with a black varnished calf counter-sangle. The top scale of each chin strap is covered with a circular copper rosette, 4.5 cm in diameter, featuring four raised stripes.
Copper crest composed of two fins, a mask, and a cap attached with four screws (two per fin). The fins are adorned with palmettes and a line at their upper edge; the rim is decorated with water leaves, all embossed. A tin plate joins the upper edges of the fins, fixing their spacing.
Mask serving as the anterior junction between the two fins with a solder, embossed with a relief head of Medusa. The cap, also embossed, represents the continuation of Medusa's hair with intertwined serpents. Ornament of the crest, consisting of a socket and a lens formed by two shells embossed with flowers and palmettes. Fixed to the front of the crest and supporting a scarlet plume of horsehair.
Black horsehair mane approximately 67 cm long.
Stamped copper plume holder, height 3.5 cm, forming a socket, fixed obliquely, from bottom to top, to the dome, a little in front of the left chin strap, using two threaded rods passing through the dome.
Interior lining of brown waxed leather with nine wolf teeth and brass eyelets.
Scarlet coq feather plume.
TROOP CUIRASS of Cuirassiers, 1855 model modified 1891, Third Republic.
Made of cast steel, oil-hardened and blued on sand. Cinched shape at the waist, flared base; the plastron's busk is accentuated, and the dossière's ridge pronounced. The plastron is adorned with 4 brass rivets, and the dossière with 6.
Outside, numbered plastron "907" then renumbered "418", stamped "4072" on the outside with the peculiarity of having the number "40" stamped on one side and "72" on the other side. Signed inside "Mre d'armes de Châtt" "January 1878" "2nd extra width size No. 2" "No. 4072". Each of the two shoulder straps has a black cow leather body, adorned with two brass chains; the body is finished with a brass buttonhole plate with a heart-shaped leather end; the shoulder strap holder is made of brass with 3 rivets. Brown leather belt with brass buckle.
Matriculated, marked, and signed dossière identically to the plastron.
Pair of troop epaulets with metal reinforcement plate, entirely made of scarlet wool.
Reconstructed padded vest.

Good condition, helmet with slight oxidation to clean, plume reconstructed later, cuirass in very good condition, leather of the belt damaged at the brass buckle but buckle intact, padded vest reconstructed later.
