SABRE OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD SAILORS "MARINS DE LA GARDE", First Empire (1804-1815).
Sabre entirely made of brass with a leather scabbard, the model of which was created in 1804 by the sword cutler DUC.
Guard with a pierced branch (height 12.2 cm without the quillon), outer ear in the shape of a shield (height 5.38 cm) engraved with an anchor, the guard branch ends in a ball-shaped quillon. The hilt is pierced underneath. Cap with a short tail (height 8.8 cm). Wooden handle covered in leather, wrapped in a straight brass wire.
Klingenthal blade, 70.2 cm long, 4.1 cm wide at the base and 7.4 cm wide at the curve, with a back thickness at the heel of about 1 cm, with a strong point bevel.
The hollow sides are engraved on each face with "GARDE IMPÉRIALE" in large cursive letters in a rope cartouche, anchor, and palmettes, rounded back.
Wooden scabbard with black waxed leather sheath, three brass fittings - cap, central band, drag; brass quillon, brass rings. Brass ring staples. The anchor stamp is not visible, as the fittings still have their original brass fasteners, making it impossible to verify its probable presence. Scabbard length 73.5 cm.
France.
First Empire (1804-1815).
Very good condition, slight blade oxidation.
NOTE:
This specimen is perfectly authentic and is part of the production that does not bear the "DUC" stamp.
