In March and April 1871, he was involved in operations against the Paris Commune. He was sent back to his hometown on April 13, 1871, as he was born in a territory ceded to Prussia.
The dolman was later assigned to Jean GESPACH, registration number 719. Born on July 3, 1839, in Sentheim (Haut-Rhin). Enlisted on January 8, 1864 (served in the 85th Line Regiment from 1862 to 1864).
